Jazz Jazz Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)

A mini-mystery regarding Francisco Elson was solved after the Jazz lost Thursday to the Trail Blazers.

The backup center played only two minutes Wednesday against the Clippers and he didn't even leave the bench for short-handed Utah on Thursday, leaving many to wonder if he'd found his way into coach Jerry Sloan's doghouse.

Elson had been averaging 11 minutes in a key reserve role.

Turns out, Elson simply didn't break his new shoes in well enough—a painful mistake that will at any moment cost him his entire toenail on his right big toe.

Elson's sore toe was the main reason the Jazz coach didn't play him either night, Sloan said.

"That (bleep) hurts like crazy," Elson said.

The good news for the Utah Jazz is they get another shot at Portland on Thursday. The bad news is the Trail Blazers still have LaMarcus Aldridge.
