NEW YORK (May 11, 2011) – Utah Jazz forward Derrick Favors was named to the 2010-11 T-Mobile NBA All-Rookie Second Team, the NBA announced today.

A first-round draft pick (third overall) out of Georgia Tech, the 6-10, 246-pound forward was acquired by Utah from New Jersey on February 23 and appeared in 78 games (27 starts) for the Jazz and Nets, averaging 6.8 points, 5.3 rebounds and 0.87 blocks in 19.7 minutes per game. Favors scored in double figures 20 times and pulled down 10-or-more rebounds on seven occasions, posting four double-doubles on the season. He appeared in 22 games (four starts) for the Jazz, averaging 8.2 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.23 blocks in 20.2 minutes.

The youngest player in the NBA this past season, the 19-year-old Atlanta native led all NBA rookie qualifiers in blocked shots (0.87), while ranking fifth in rebounding (5.3), eighth in scoring (6.8) and 10th in minutes (19.7). He also would have ranked third in field goal percentage (.517, 215-416) had he had enough shot attempts to qualify.

Favors is the eighth Jazz player to be selected to an NBA All-Rookie First or Second Team; Darrell Griffith (1980-81), Thurl Bailey (1983-84), Karl Malone (1985-86), Andrei Kirilenko (2001-02) and Deron Williams (2005-06) were named All-Rookie First Team, while Blue Edwards (1989-90) and Paul Millsap (2006-07) were selected to the Second Team.

The 2010-11 T-Mobile NBA All-Rookie First Team consists of the L.A. Clippers’ Blake Griffin, Sacramento’s DeMarcus Cousins, Washington’s John Wall, New York’s Landry Fields and San Antonio’s Gary Neal. Joining Favors on the Second Team is Detroit’s Greg Monroe, Minnesota’s Wesley Johnson, the Clippers’ Eric Bledsoe and Indiana’s Paul George
