I asked this because I picked up my auntie and uncle from the airport this morning. They are visiting from Florida and have an 8 year old boy and a 5 year old girl. I have like this radio transmitter for my iPod that I use so I can listen to my music when I'm driving.

Anyway I decided to put my radio onto the local station just to play it safe, even though I know my uncle loves rap. It just got me thinking that, rap generally is accompanied by language that can be pretty influential on a young persons ears.

My question to you is: when you eventually have kids, will you let them listen to rap?

Well honestly I've listened to rap a lot since I was about 9. And my parents usually didn't mind. And I didn't start cussing a lot until I was like 12 and that was because of one of my friends that I was around 24/7.

I'll probably let them listen to it. I'll try to influence them into good rap though

I'll expose them to rap but like the people above have stated, I'll try to not introduce them to songs with too much swearing at that stuff. But I'll make sure he grows up to be the next D-Pryde, that's for sure.

I'll only let them listen to songs with the most amount of cuss words. Then every time they cuss I'll beat the shit out of them while yelling 'WHERE'D YOU LEARN THAT FILTH!!!?!?!????!?'

Yeah I will. Hip hop is super expressive and I would want my kids to pick up on being expressive. Say whats on your mind, as long as its appropriate. I wouldn't mind my kids telling people how they feel, as long as they leave the curse words out.

Will a little kid really even understand? I'd hope that my kid knows the difference between right and wrong, which I know they will. If they cuss I'll tell them that it's bad and they cant say it.

Not a big issue for me. As soon as I move home, music will be blasted every morning and night at my house.

ill let them listen to whatever genra they really want, id encourage their own expession of theirself. i think id prob be likely to shelter them from rap until they were a bit older, maybe like middle school, when they understand it better and would know not to walk around repeating what they say. cuz everyones a kid, even if i tell them swearing is bad, theyre obviously gonna do it with their friends, which is fine, but i think id still like to keep it from them until they were in middle school so that they can at least be a bit more wiser about expressing what they get from rap.
