Lebron James could someday be the NBA's all time points leader. How likely is it? I tried to find out.

Part 1: Kareem's Points

Kareem scored 38,387 points in his career. This is the total Lebron needs to reach to become the all time points leader.

Part 2: Lebron's Points Pre-Sim League

From his rookie year through the 2007-2008 season, Lebron scored 10,689 points. He was then 27,698 away from the record.

Part 3: Lebron's Points Sim League Seasons 1-5

In the first 5 seasons of the sim league, Lebron scored 12,713 points. He was then 14,985 points away from Kareem.

Part 4: Lebron's Points Season 6

So far, James has averaged 32.4 points per game. If he keeps that up for 80 games, he will score 2,592 points. This will leave him 12,393 points away from the record.

Part 5: The Future

Lebron is just 28 years old. If he plays until he is 35, that means he will have 7 more years. That would mean he needs 1,771 points per season. If he only plays 70 games per season, He will need just 25.3 points per game over that span. That is an incredibly safe bet. There is almost no doubt Lebron will pass Kareem's record.

Part 6: How High?

How high can James set the record? Let's go back and say at the end of season 6, he will have 25,994 points. That is the starting point. James could play until he is 38, which would mean 10 more seasons. If he plays 70 games per year and scored 27.5 points per game, he will ecliple 45,000 points. The same could be said if he plays 75 games per year and scored 25.5 points per game. This might be important to pay attention to, because Durant is a few years younger than Lebron... but that is for another article!
