Dealing with rumors is a big part of being a GM.

From time-to-time, you may be approached by a player, a player agent, a coach or a draft prospect. That person might want to talk about playing time, a possible extension, a trade request, etc.

Sometimes, the person will be nice enough to come to you in private first, before going to the press.

Some people, however, are not so considerate.
