I would actually prefer the 2004 Lakers, especially since Shaq was still in his prime, and even Gary Payton had something left in him.
2004 / 2013
Shaq, Age 31, PER 24.4 --- vs --- Howard, Age 27, PER 24.2
Malone, Age 40, PER 17.8 --- vs --- Gasol, Age 32, PER 20.5
George, Age 27, PER 11.5 --- vs --- Metta, Age 33, PER 11.0
Bryant, Age 25, PER 23.7 --- vs --- Bryant, Age 34, PER 21.9
Payton, Age 35, PER 17.3 --- vs ---- Nash, Age 38, PER 20.3
Note 2013 team PER's are actually from 2012, and some further decline is possible.
Pretty interesting matchup really. Both teams are made up in bulk by older players, with 2013 having more balanced distribution, while the 04 Lakers are carried by two pretty much prime level guys in Kobe/Shaq vs just one in Howard for the new look squad.
Late prime Shaq vs prime Howard. Prime Kobe vs older Kobe. Aging Payton vs Aging Nash. Malone an ironman even at 40 vs also leaving prime Gasol.
The 04 squad won 56 games and made the Finals despite missing about 70 games from Shaq, Kobe, and Malone. And of course lost in the Finals, where Malone was also injured.
Intriguing, who do you have win in a 7 game series? (srs)
please respond.

Perhaps.

^ good points.
But the '13 are ridiculously RIDICULOUSLY LOAAADAAAHD (high pitched scream, Bruce Dickinson style)
Everybody had their period and bled out their vaginas and rectums apocalyptically when Bron and Bosh came to the Heat, and everybody was mad as hell about the "balance of power" in the NBA. Nobody even realized they had a gaping hole in the 1 and 5 positions and ZERO depth overall, plus a rookie coach but whtvr...
These trades are absolutely preposterous, and will serve as an example of how unjust, unfair, and ALL-ABOUT-THE-MONEHHHH MONEH MONEHHHHHHH !!!!....the NBA really is.
There's no fkn justice, or a semblance of smaller market teams to get anywhere when the Lakers have like 120mil salary cap and like the Twolves have 40.
If the Lakers don't win the championship, and oh lemme just remind you of the roster just so we're on the same page: that being REALITY; and that I'm not biased or wtvr the hell this forum may come up with:
NASH KOBE ARTEST GASOL HOWARD JAMISON, plus excellent depth.
Uhmmmmm...HELLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO....
....OOOO ??!!!!!!

Shaq would absolutely man handle Dwight. His the only guy I've seen who's been able to actually move Dwight and make a big impact on him, consistently anyway. And that's when he was on the decline.
04 Lakers.

^ yeah but there's the whole rest of the team.
Malone was still performing but far from his prime.
'13 has Pau fkn Gasol.
Steve Nash (true PG, pure shooter...etc) vs Derek (anal) Fisher.
And better than Dwight or not, Dwight still is currently the best center in the league, the most athletic C right now and top5 ever, who's still a defensive and rebounding machine. When did Shaq ever get DPOY ?

in deed, just a tad wee bit off topic !
Yes, they're more than just the verse/chorus based legend we imagine...highly progressive works (seventh son...)
But yeah guys, it's sad, and I mean not trivialize great teams' prowess; but sadly there's nothing fair about having Shaq n Kobe n Malone n Payton and a good bench and the best coach of all time...it's oh-all about the cashezez....

you have a point. It is Shaq...
And Kobe was scoring 30ppg (exactly !) the year before Malone and Payton came, despite Shaq's monstrous presence.
Perhaps nostalgia, or at least the notion that a team from the past seems shrouded with an aura makes us remember them in greater terms than they may have been...of course the numbers are there and all, but after what this team will achieve, 10-15 years later we'll say the same about them.
