No Blake. No Faried. No Lee. No Randolph. Oh, but the top overall pick makes his first appearance, and Philly’s human pogo stick leads the pack! Here’s to the young ‘uns!
Dwight Howard is playing like Dwight Howard again, Marc Gasol breaks into the top five, and Sacramento’s resident meathead makes an appearance as well.
Who is your 2012-2013 Rookie of the Year?

The New Orleans Hornets have 17 games left in the calendar. The Portland Trailblazers have 20 more regular season games and still have a reasonable shot at the Playoffs (yes, they still do, don’t be mean guys). Why should you care? Because the Rookie of the Year of the current season will come from either of those teams, unless Bradley Beal goes Rambo on everyone and makes like 10 treys per game. Of course, that won’t happen. One – Rambo can’t shoot threes, two – Beal doesn’t have explosive-tipped arrows, and three – nobody speaks like Rambo.
Awards Watch: 3rd Edition

We have reached roughly the 75% mark of the season and most teams have played around 60 games. The playoffs are due in about 6 weeks and positioning for spots has been very exciting. It's time to examine for the third time how the players have performed for the different individual awards for the 2012-2013 season.

The Top 5 players in each individual award category are listed including their rank from the previous edition.

Here's the link for the past editions: <a href="http://www.hoopnut.com/2012/12/the-nba-awards-watch-1st-edition.html"

This is BIG. Houston and Indiana, See You in October ’13!!!

By now, everyone already knows about the biggest NBA development involving the Philippines – an actual NBA preseason game will be played here in Manila. James Harden, Jeremy Lin, Chandler Parsons, and the rest of the Rockets will pit their skills against those of Roy Hibbert, Danny Granger, Paul George, and the rest of the Indiana Pacers.

As NBA Asia Senior VP and Managing Director Scott Levy said in my interview with him, “These are two exciting teams with some of the best young stars today.”

It’s a game sure to feature

Our 2013 Playoff Projections - Western Conference

In the previous post, we looked at the Playoff Projections for the Eastern Conference.

Among the interesting things we uncovered were the following:
- Indiana will overtake New York for the 2nd seed
- Atlanta will get the 4th seed via a superior tiebreaker over Brooklyn
- The Bulls will fall to 6th place
- The Bucks might

Our 2013 Playoff Projections – Eastern Conference
After reading this piece from SB Nation, I got inspired to make Hoop Nut’s very own Playoff Projections for the current season. By projections, I mean simply looking at the current crop of teams playing for Playoff spots or playing the rankings game. This is meant as just ONE WAY (and there are many other ways I’m sure) of seeing how the rest of the regular season might turn out, and, therefore, which teams will

The Best Players and Teams of February 2013
We saw a lot of great performances in the Love Month of ’13. The Heat lost just one game all month, Steph Curry dropped 54 on the Knicks, Tony Parker and James Harden provided strong numbers, and, of course, the All-Star Weekend in Houston had a lot of memorable moments (let’s just forget the Trade Deadline shall we?). Now we find ourselves entering the third month of the New Year. The top half of each Conference’s Playoff seedings are pretty much set, unless some favorites make monumental runs or meltdowns. All the other squads, however, will begin scrambling for

February 2013 Position Battle – The Top 5 Point Guards Right Now

He probably won’t win the MVP award this season, or maybe in any season, but that will not dim the fact that Tony Parker has been the best point guard of the past week or so. Joining him on this list are four young guns who will probably figure in the “Best PG” conversation long after Parker’s time is up.

Note: All of the following stats are based on the last five games of each player’s team as computed by HoopsStats.com. Stats were retrieved on February 28, 2013 (Manila time).
February 2013 Position Battle – The Top 5 Shooting Guards Right Now
It really is time to fear the beard. James Harden is the best shooting guard in the Association, maybe in the whole world, right now. No Kobe fans, I’m not hating on Mamba. I’m just laying out all the facts and straight up saying that Harden’s production trumps Kobe’s and Harden’s Rockets are in the West’s Top 8 while Kobe’s Lakers have been blowing hot and cold. Facts. Knowing how Kobe is, however, I’m sure he won’t take this sitting down. It’s Beard versus Mamba down the stretch.
